Routt County Humane Society (RCHS) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a generous grant to further its commitment to the well-being of animals through innovative behavior enrichment programs, a behavior helpline for pet owners to prevent shelter admissions, and as a resource for new adopters.
The $7,000 grant, generously provided by the Animal Assistance Foundation (AAF), will be instrumental in expanding RCHS’s efforts to enhance the mental and emotional health of the animals in its care, while also providing free behavior advice to community pet owners. The funds will be allocated to a certified dog trainer to develop and implement a comprehensive behavior program that promotes positive, stimulating experiences for dogs experiencing behavioral challenges affecting their adoptability. The trainer will also be available one day a week to answer questions about common behavioral challenges from community pet owners, while also providing post-adoption support to ensure a smooth transition.

For community pets, by offering behavior advice to common training challenges experienced by pet owners, RCHS is striving to prevent shelter intakes and to help pet owners with the human-animal bond.”
Behavior enrichment programs play a crucial role in reducing stress and anxiety in shelter animals, increasing their chances of successful adoption. The grant will support the development of activities such as interactive toys, training sessions, and specialized programs tailored to the unique needs of each shelter animal.
