$2500 Grant From Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church to Support Veterinary Care for Seniors’ Pets
The Routt County Humane Society (RCHS) is pleased to announce that it has received a $2,500 grant from the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church to support a vital veterinary assistance program for low-income senior pet owners in Routt County.
This funding will help provide subsidized medical care—including wellness exams, treatment, diagnostics, dental care, and chronic disease management—for pets belonging to elderly residents who might otherwise be unable to afford care. The program is designed not only to protect the health and well-being of animals but also to preserve the human-animal bond that plays a crucial role in the mental and emotional health of older adults.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from Heart of Steamboat,” said Elaine Hicks, Executive Director of RCHS. “For many seniors, their pets are their lifeline—offering companionship, comfort, and routine. This grant allows us to step in when medical issues arise and ensure both pets and their people can continue to thrive together.”
The program aims to serve as a compassionate safety net for senior pet owners, reinforcing the Humane Society’s mission to serve as a community resource that supports both animals and the people who love them.
