Hi there, I’m Nalu—the Chief Executive Baker (CEB) at Routt County Humane Society (RCHS)!

I earned that title thanks to the many biscuits I make each day. My journey to 760 Critter Court wasn’t an easy one, but it led me to exactly where I was meant to be.

I came to RCHS when my previous owner, who loved me very much, couldn’t afford the veterinary care I needed. It was a heartbreaking and selfless decision for her to surrender me. Still, she knew this was a place where animals like me could receive medical treatment and behavioral support and maybe even get a second chance with a new family. She was right.

After some time with my new shelter and veterinary family, they discovered I have a special medical condition that’s triggered by stress. That made finding me a new home tricky.  So, after a lot of thought, the amazing team here decided I would be best off staying right where I was—at 760 Critter Court—as a permanent resident. And honestly? I couldn’t be happier.

Now, I keep a close eye on shelter happenings and do my best to pay forward all the care and love I’ve received. I greet visitors, offer endless affection to staff and volunteers, and even help out with the behavior program by socializing and testing out whether new animals are cat-friendly. I’ve become an important part of the family here, and I make sure every animal who walks through our doors gets the same compassion and support I did.

I’m just one of many success stories highlighting the important work of the humane society. The team here does it all—from adoptions and pet surrenders to caring for strays, running a community pet pantry, providing affordable veterinary care, offering foster and volunteer opportunities, and developing behavior enrichment plans. Everything they do is to make life better for pets like me and their people. So stop in and say hello—I’ll be at the front desk making biscuits and sharing the love, just like always.
